‘When you play with history in front of you. You give it your all. No game is easy, especially not one that can get you to the quarter-finals. The Netherlands are the favourites tomorrow. They have fantastic players, but we also have our own strengths.’

Yordanescu also spoke about Romania’s success at the 1994 World Cup: ‘That was a great moment, I was there, but it’s another group. We know that tomorrow we have to be close to perfection to get a good result. Don’t be fooled by how the Netherlands play against Austria.’

He continued by talking about the chance of reaching the last 8 of Euro 2024. saying:

‘To reach the quarter-finals is great. It’s hard to put it into words. The important thing is to be strong, disciplined, systematic and decisive, and things can go our way.’

The Zombies boss also spoke about the Romanian’s preparations: ‘I wouldn’t say the training is harder, but maybe at a higher level if I speak professionally. My goal is to push them to be more focused, to do their best. I am keen to measure their emotions. Their thoughts and I want to make sure they are aware of the importance of this moment. This is my priority. ‘

‘I said before in the Euros that I will take responsibility for what happened. But for what went well, they (the players) have to take responsibility. I’m not trying to tell them that it’s up to them what the result will be tomorrow. But it’s my challenge for them. I’m sure they understand and I’m waiting for them to react on the pitch.’
